Counting the Cost: Anime Merchandise

Pretty much the scene every time I go to an anime convention or order online.

Guess what? I lied. I try to shop like that but due to the fact that my resources are limited, not all of them gets into my loot. Same thing happens when buying online.
Feel free to blame customs for that. They love imposing tariffs and stuff on my orders even if some are not supposed to be taxed.

Also, please don’t start hating on Oreimo or Kirino for now. I just want to use the screenshot as an example.

The reason why I’m making this post is because of a thread in Reddit’s /r/AnimeFigures. There was a discussion regarding the amount people have spent on their figures. Since most collectors keep track of their collection via myfigurecollection, the thread has some interesting comments regarding the amount that they spent. As a witness, of that bragging event I could say that the total amount can buy a condo in my city.

Since I don’t want to put their list to shame, I decided to not post the breakdown and total of the amount I spent in the subreddit. Besides, what is the use of this diary blog if such trivial topic is not posted here?

This is going to be a very long post so let’s get started!

I’ll start with including my items listed in mfc then down to those not listed. Blame mfc for not including the item in their database. I won’t include my gadgets used to run or store media as well as shipping rates and customs fees for my imports. They are NOT negligible but it would make my total spending inaccurate since they’re not really considered as anime merchandise.

Here’s my MFC collection tab screenshot. Click here if you want an organized view of my precious collection.

I don’t really add merchandise in my wishlist. I do have a lot in mind but i’m not fond of adding those items in mfc.

So… figures first?

Figures:

Nendoroid 104 – Azusa Nakano
Photo: Not mine. Have a shitty phone camera by the time I obtained her. Credits go to the rightful owner.
Series: K-ON! (Anime)
Date obtained: Around 2011.
Shop: Had to have someone get her from abroad as I have no idea obtaining her from the country I used to live in.
Shipping: Err…someone bought it and placed it in their check in luggage?
Score: 8/10
Other notes: Cute nendo with interesting cutesy accessories. Nekomimi and cat would be useful for taking photos with other Nendoroids.
Cost: Expecting me to remember? Let’s use the indicated price in mfc. 3333 JPY

Bandai AGP – Tobiichi Origami
Photo: Taken with my former Samsung Galaxy S4. Source pic is lost as my phone was left/lost/stolen in a public vehicle. Photo downloaded from Facebook.
Series: DATE A LIVE (Anime)
Date obtained: December 4 2013
Shop: Amazon.com (Had to have someone use their account and a proxy to have the item delivered outside US)
Shipping: Aramex (proxy)
Score: 9/10
Other notes: It’s by AGP. It may look like figma but they’re made by different companies so AGP parts can’t be used on figma and vice versa. The default face plate does not really tickle my fancy but the one I used in this photo did. I believe that face plate intensified my want for this figure. The price was decent but I bought it during black friday so the cost was even lower. Can’t escape shipping fees though. THE SHIPPING FEE IS DOUBLE THE PRICE OF THE FIGURE FFS!!!
Cost: 6652 JPY

Max Factory – Kongou 1/8 scale chuuha ver.
Photo: Taken with my former Samsung Galaxy S4. Source pic is lost as my phone was left/lost/stolen in a public vehicle but photo backed up in my PC.
Series: Kantai Collection (GAME/ANIME)
Date obtained: June 9 2015
Shop: HOBBY SEARCH
Shipping: EMS [EJ370643288JP]
Score: 10/10
Other notes: My most expensive figure to this date. I was hesitating to get her from Amiami because of her price. My resources were running low by the time I ordered her as I had just resigned from my job as a CSR. Getting her would mean that I have to shell out some cash from my savings which I’m trying to avoid. That figure being repetitively out of stock in Amiami prompted me to order her from HOBBY SEARCH right away as I have the feeling that she’ll be out of stock in every online store and it really happened. This is also the figure that taught me to order from local anime online stores as much as possible. Buying this figure taught me of fucking TAXES imposed by the customs under our retarded government. I was tortured by going to the warehouse by bus and other horrible means of transport 17 km away to have it inspected by customs only for me to be charged -_- . The staff were friendly since I wasn’t irate, unlike other people who were unaware of the fees they’re about to pay. I also bought my long katana umbrella so the employees were amused by it :). Unfortunately, the shipping box was large enough to attract the attention of customs people. Worse part is I have to take the bulky package home on a crowded bus and other horrible public transport modes. Welp, lesson learned. Still one of my most memorable purchase and I’m happy about it.

About the figure… it was so beautiful that I can only describe it by saying the words of details, delicious thighs and sideboobs :3
A friend of mine who’s keen on reading this blog even questioned me about my love of “Naval Architecture”. Don’t get me wrong, I do love her naval architecture. Both in KanColle and the actual warship πŸ˜€
Cost: 13018 JPY

Nendoroid 520 – Yamato
Photo: Taken with my former Samsung Galaxy S4. Source pic is lost as my phone was left/lost/stolen in a public vehicle. Photo downloaded from Facebook.
Series: Kantai Collection (GAME/ANIME)
Date obtained: December 27 2015
Shop: NICO NICO NOMI
Shipping: N/A [Bought her in a local con]
Score: 9/10
Other notes: A Nendoroid which reminded me that assembling one is a pain in the ass. The fact that she is a KanColle Nendoroid made it even harder for her to be assembled with her huge amount of accessories. I should have gotten her scale figure but her Nendoroid form is still a beauty.
Cost: 6266 JPY (I had around 10% discount since I bought it in the evening on last day of the convention. Even if I didn’t have the discount, it’s still cheaper compare to buying her elsewhere.)

Nendoroid 542 – Northern Princess
Photo: Taken with replacement HTC ONE M9.
Series:Kantai Collection (GAME/ANIME)
Date obtained: April 17 2016
Shop: ONEGAI ONII-CHAN
Shipping: N/A [Bought her in a local con]
Score: 9/10
Other notes: My first abyssal Nendoroid whom I was spotting since its pre-order started rolling. I was hesitating to pre-order her from a local shop so I decided to wait for her to be sold in a convention and sure enough, it did. I asked about her price in the morning but the assistant in the shop quoted me the price 4% higher than what they have in their website. Thinking the guy was attempting to scam me, I left their stall. I came back before my friends have lunch and I asked the owner about its price and I was surprised the price this time was 8% higher than what they have in their website. I decided to purchase her right away as I was thinking the price may increase if I asked another time. I felt cheated but I guess prices in anime conventions are higher than buying it off the website so i’m satisfied with my purchase. Besides, another shop has her 15% higher than what I paid.

Her box is as heavy as Yamato’s but I believe Yamato has slightly more accessories than her. Hoppo chan’s (Northern Princess’s nickname) body is quite dense because of her bulky hair and skirt. Her color along with her Christmas outfit would fit a white Christmas setup for photography or dioramas. The black accessories, especially her Christmas tree used to have an unpleasant plastic smell but I checked her box today and the smell was almost gone. I’m pretty sure this Nendoroid isn’t a bootleg because I bought it from a GSC partner shop and it was recently released that time so no chances of her nendoroid having a bootleg version.
Cost: 6052 JPY

Nendoroid 629 – Taiho
Photo: Taken with replacement HTC ONE M9.
Series: Kantai Collection (GAME/ANIME)
Date obtained: September 20 2016
Shop: JNJT COLLECTIBLES
Shipping: N/A [Bought her in a local online shop and picked up in their physical shop]
Score: 9/10
Other notes: I tried to attempt to construct Yamato in KanColle around August but ended up with Taiho. For some reason, I fell in love to her body figure as well as her naval architecture in real life. My friends said it’s because of my “lolicon” tendencies which I call bullshit. Anyways, that fateful day prompted me to pre-order her at the last minute.

KanColle Nendoroids usually have some sort of food accessory with them but for some reason, Taiho does not have one. I would understand if she was an abyssal but she isn’t. Her box contains only one “level” so there was not a lot of accessories that came with her. Nevertheless, she is still a great addition to my collection. Buying her figure is not about the amount of the accessory that came with it but the love for her character in the game.
Cost: 5005 JPY

Nendoroid 514 – Ryuujou
Photo: Not mine. Credit goes to Kahotan blog.
Series: Kantai Collection (GAME/ANIME)
Date obtained: November 20 2016
Shop: ONEGAI ONII-CHAN
Shipping: FASTRACK [2923044]
Score: 8/10
Other notes: Was planning to buy it in the con last December 2016 but the shop had a massive sale so I decided to get her before the con. Item’s still mint in sealed box so I can’t give detailed information yet. Planning to unbox her before the semester starts.
Cost: 3898 JPY

Nendoroid 494 – Battleship Re-Class
Photo: Not mine. Credit goes to its rightful owners.
Series: Kantai Collection (GAME/ANIME)
Date obtained: November 20 2016
Shop: ONEGAI ONII-CHAN
Shipping: FASTRACK [2923044]
Score: 9/10
Other notes: Tried to buy it off at auction on a convention back in December 2015 but I failed (I instead bought Yamato in order to cope up with my “loss”). I realized this item would be hard to obtain in a few months so I planned to buy it in the con last December 2016 even if it means shelling out quite an amount. Thankfully, the shop had a massive sale before the con kicked off so I decided to get her right away. Item’s still mint in sealed box so I can’t give detailed information yet. Planning to unbox her before the semester starts.
Cost: 5736 JPY

Nendoroid 656 – Kashima
Photo: Taken with replacement HTC ONE M9.
Series: Kantai Collection (GAME/ANIME)
Date obtained: December 16 2016
Shop: JNJT COLLECTIBLES
Shipping: N/A [Bought her in a local online shop and picked up in their physical shop]
Score: 9/10
Other notes: Decided to get her as soon as I heard she’s getting a Nendoroid. The preview on Kahotan intensified my interest with the figure and sure enough, it delivered.

Her Nendoroid includes a Christmas outfit which looks perfect on her. Her accessories are adequate just like other KanColle nendoroids. She would look good with Northern Princess nendoroid with a Christmas setup. Too bad she does not include a Lawson outfit ><. I guess GSC does not want to pay for royalty fees and other “necessary” bullshit.
Cost: 4873 JPY

Nendoroid 621 – Shoukaku
Photo: Not mine. Credit goes to Kahotan blog.
Series: Kantai Collection (GAME/ANIME)
Date obtained: December 27 2016
Shop: N/A [Re sold to me]
Shipping: N/A [Met up with the seller]
Score: 9/10
Other notes: Never planned to buy her at first but decided I love Shoukaku. I missed her and Zuikaku’s pre-orders so I knew I have to suck it up and buy them at a high cost until God sent an angel who sold her at a pre-order price. I got her and Zuikaku as a bundle and the seller gave me THE EXTRA ELEVATED BASE!!! Haven’t unboxed her yet but i’m planning to do so before the semester starts.
Cost: 2896 JPY

Nendoroid 622 – Zuikaku
Photo: Not mine. Credit goes to Kahotan blog.
Series: Kantai Collection (GAME/ANIME)
Date obtained: December 27 2016
Shop: N/A [Re sold to me]
Shipping: N/A [Met up with the seller]
Score: 9/10
Other notes: She was the only Shoukaku class nendoroid I planned to buy. I missed the pre-orders so I knew I have to suck it up and buy them at a high cost until God has sent an angel who sold the sisters at a pre-order price. I got her and Shoukaku as a bundle and the seller gave me THE EXTRA ELEVATED BASE!!! Welp, haven’t unboxed her yet but i’m planning to do so before the semester starts.
Cost: 2896 JPY

Nendoroid 632 – Shigure Kai II
Photo: Taken with replacement HTC ONE M9.
Series: Kantai Collection (GAME/ANIME)
Date obtained: January 6 2017
Shop: JNJT COLLECTIBLES
Shipping: N/A [Bought her in a local online shop and picked up in their physical shop]
Score: 9/10
Other notes: Was reluctant to buy her at first but finally gave in. Was surprised on the amount of accessories and price ratio. Notable outfits were Valentine’s and Swimsuit outfit that were similar to her CG’s!! I could pay a bit higher but I don’t blame GSC for setting an SRP for her :3

HAVE I MENTIONED SHE CAN BE YOUR DATE EVERY DAMN 14TH OF FEB!!????
I’m not telling you to replace your 3D partner but… it can be done easily :\
Cost: 4655 JPY

SEGA SPM Figure – Zuikaku
Photo: Not mine. Credit goes to whoever owns it.
Series: Kantai Collection (GAME/ANIME)
Date obtained: April 10, 2017
Shop: MANDARAKE
Shipping: DHL [9386133330]
Score: 9/10
Other notes: A friend had a vlog while he was in Japan that featured her and a YouPorn YouTube video of her review posted on KanColle subreddit prompted me to buy her. I mfc’ed her and the featured photo above intensified my longing for this figure so I headed to Mandarake only to find out she does not cost an arm and a leg. Considering it’s easier to import her due to customs new policy, I added her in my cart πŸ˜€

Item only arrived a few days ago with my NMD R2 so I haven’t had the chance to take proper photos or had the chance to unbox her.
Cost: 1000 JPY

SEGA SPM Figure – Shoukaku
Photo: Not mine. Credit goes to whoever owns it.
Series: Kantai Collection (GAME/ANIME)
Date obtained: April 10, 2017
Shop: MANDARAKE
Shipping: DHL [9386133330]
Score: 9/10
Other notes: The same friend who had a vlog while he was in Japan included her in the video as well and I knew that I want to buy her. Fast forward to the time I was considering to buy Zuikaku, it looks like I wasn’t in the mood to buy her but I realized Zuikaku needs to be with her sis and I knew i’ll buy her in the future anyway so I added her in my cart πŸ˜€

Item only arrived a few days ago with my NMD R2 so I haven’t had the chance to take proper photos or had the chance to unbox her.
Cost: 1200 JPY

SEGA SPM Figure – Sendai Kai ni
Photo: Not mine. Credit goes to whoever owns it.
Series: Kantai Collection (GAME/ANIME)
Date obtained: April 10, 2017
Shop: MANDARAKE
Shipping: DHL [9386133330]
Score: 9/10
Other notes: I was not aware about prize figures being good quality before I saw this figure in KanColle subreddit. By the time I discovered this figure, the customs here still tax everything so I had no choice but to wait for a local shop or a con for it to be sold. Guess what? She was not available in any of the shops that I checked.

Fast forward to March 2017 where the customs already had its reform about the minimum value of goods needed to be taxed. Like Shoukaku, I also had hesitations on buying her but Mandarake had this policy that a 500 JPY fee has to be paid if the total amount of goods bought is below 5000 JPY. I did not want to pay for that and I realized I would be buying Sendai anyway so I added her in my cart πŸ˜€

Item only arrived a few days ago with my NMD R2 so I haven’t had the chance to take proper photos or had the chance to unbox her.
Cost: 1500 JPY

Media:

Hatsune Miku: Project Diva f 2nd
Developer: SEGA
Console: PSVITA
Date obtained: December 20 2014
Shop: DATABLITZ
Shipping: N/A [Bought her in a local physical shop]
Score: 9/10
Other notes: This game prompted me to buy a PSVITA, particularly when a player played the song “Karakuri Pierrot” which eventually become one of my favorite songs. I realized that my consoles are getting outdated after attending a gaming convention so I decided to accept a job offer at a slavery firm BPO company and buy this console and games with my first salary and Christmas bonus.

The gameplay is like Osu, a rythm game. The jump for the difficulties is quite high so this game may appear difficult to new players. At first, I wanna unlock every song but then I got lazy and just searched the internet on the songs needed to unlock Karakuri Pierrot. That was the last time I touched the game.
Cost: 3101 JPY

Persona 4 Golden
Developer: ATLUS
Console: PSVITA
Date obtained: December 20 2014
Shop: DATABLITZ
Shipping: N/A [Bought her in a local physical shop]
Score: 10/10
Other notes: I used to play a pirated Persona 4 back in the day in my PlayStation 2 but the game started to malfunction before I hit Naoto’s route. I tried to download and buy the game but the downloaded version wasn’t working and the non-pirated version of the physical game that I found does not seem to be compatible to my PS2, region wise. I was deeply saddened on what happened so I was delighted to hear that a PSVITA remake exists.

The game was very similar to Persona 4 in PlayStation 2 but they changed Chie’s voice and there was a new character. Her name’s “Marie“. The game still gives the vibe of the classical Persona game and I just can’t describe its beauty. If you love Visual Novels and RPG’s then this game is definitely for you.

Akiba’s Trip: Undead & Undressed
Developer: Acquire
Console: PSVITA
Date obtained: December 20 2014
Shop: DATABLITZ
Shipping: N/A [Bought her in a local physical shop]
Score: 9/10
Other notes: I heard about the game a few months ago and I became interested in it due to its theme and visual novel/RPG style gameplay.
I can’t give much detail on it since I only had the game tested in the shop where I bought the console and the game. I haven’t touched it ever since. I downloaded its PC version but that hasn’t been touched after being tested as well.
Cost: 3767 JPY

Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax
Developer: SEGA
Console: PSVITA
Date obtained: December 20 2014
Shop: DATABLITZ
Shipping: N/A [Bought her in a local physical shop]
Score: 10/10
Other notes: I heard about the game’s release just when I was about to buy the console. It used to be exclusive in Japanese arcades so I was delighted when I heard I could play it on an accessible platform. I loved the game, which reminded me of my childhood days where I play these types of fighting games and this time, I can use an anime character. Simply amazing. However, I tried to play online with it and I lose 90% of the time. I admit my skills are rusty but no need to get me rekt ToT. Good thing there are no “ggez” spam douchebags in this game. If console gaming isn’t as costly, I would have switched to it a long time ago.
Cost: 3989 JPY

KanColle Kai
Developer: Kadokawa
Console: PSVITA
Date obtained: February 23 2016
Shop: Amiami
Shipping: EMS [EM278071892JP]
Score: 9/10
Other notes: Pre-ordered this game as soon as it opened simply because KanColle is love and also to supplement my sadness and boredom if ever (PLEASE DON’T) the browser game would be shut down for good. I have doubts it would happen soon or even in the future but who knows.

I have not played the game much due to the contrast of gameplay with the browser version. I could say the gameplay somehow looks different compared to the browser game and it may take a while to get used to. Even its UI on the main menu looks plain. The good thing about this game is that every kanmusu is powered by Live2D technology and when a shipgirl sinks, simply quit the game and load your last save and voila! Your girl’s back. However, the game has some sort of a story and as most games with stories, it comes to an end. Trick is, don’t play the game if you don’t want to see it end. Always works πŸ˜‰

Goods:

Dakimakura – Kirisaki Chitoge
Photo: Not mine.
Classification: Dakimakura cover
Artist: Hina
NFSW: YES [Uncensored ]
Date Obtained: December 27 2014
Shop: HOUSE OF DAKIMAKURA
Score: 10/10
Other notes: My first dakimakura cover which I bought it with my Christmas bonus that I received during my working days as a CSR. I got a 15% discount since the shop offers it when selling at conventions. Was about to treat a friend with a daki cover but he refused so I ended up the only guy in the squad to buy one :\

Nope, I have not slept with it as I don’t have a long pillow stuffing. Even if I have one I still won’t sleep with it simply because it’s a valued possession. I also do not hang it on my wall or have it displayed in my room since there are many instances that uninvited people enter it without permission. Those people may not reprimand me for having such a “vulgar” item but they may ask embarrassing questions regarding those kinds of goodies. So where do i keep it? Inside a single plastic drawer. You know, those bought at the 100 JPY stores.
Cost: 4459 JPY

Kantoku Calendar 2015
Photo: Not mine.
Classification: Calendar
Artist: Kantoku
NFSW: NO
Date Obtained: March 2 2015
Shop: JBOX [SFW webpage of JLIST]
Shipping: EMS [EJ355119515JP]
Score: 10/10
Other notes: My first order using my card in a Japanese website. This order served a test if my MasterCard was working and sure enough, it did. I did have hesitation ordering from a Japanese website since they will ship it using EMS which would mean my package would be also handled by our state run post. Don’t even get me started on those pesky customs bullshit. I actually had a bad dream about it not arriving in one piece TuT

Fortunately, it arrived in one piece in a long box in which the calendar was rolled along with the anime cardboard glasses bonus from JLIST. The cover of the calendar was the photo above and those bubbles are actually shiny and reflect some light. The printed artwork inside the cover was just…vivid and the images were crystal clear. Quality loli artwork. It’s too pretty that I didn’t want to hang it on a wall :\. Welp, I made the decision since I don’t wanna rip the pages off.

Now that I think about it, even if I did then i could just hang each individual pages as a poster. Well, they’re still in the box in great condition so I’m happy with its quality remaining in top shape πŸ˜€

Photo: Not mine. Credit goes to Kahotan blog
Series: Kantai Collection (GAME/ANIME)
Date obtained: N/A [PRE-ORDER STATUS]
Shop: JNJT COLLECTIBLES
Shipping: N/A [Bought her in a local online shop]
Score: 9/10
Other notes: Kinda hesitated pre-ordering her at first but I realized I want Yamato to have a friend, not to mention the holding hands accessory. This would be my most expensive nendoroid even though I got an 18% discount for it. Can’t give any more detail since she has yet to arrive as of the 5th of April 2017.
Cost: 6893 JPY

Series: Kantai Collection (GAME/ANIME)
Date obtained: N/A [PRE-ORDER STATUS]
Shop: JNJT COLLECTIBLES
Shipping: N/A [Bought her in a local online shop]
Score: 9/10
Other notes: Pre-ordered her the moment I saw her being available for reservation. She’s my first kai-ni after all. Just like her sister Shigure, this Nendoroid also has a swimsuit accessory which makes her even more suitable to be displayed with Shigure. Once again, I can’t give any more detail since she has yet to arrive as of the 5th of April 2017.
Cost: 5105 JPY

Series: Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku Wo!
Date obtained: N/A [PRE-ORDER STATUS]
Shop: JNJT COLLECTIBLES
Shipping: N/A [Bought her in a local online shop]
Score: 9/10
Other notes: The first non KanColle nendoroid I bought after 5 or 6 years. She looked adorable so something inside me was telling me to get her and sure enough, I gave in to my temptations. Even if I haven’t watched the series, I had the feeling that I need to get her. Heck i’ll watch it in the near future so why not? I was surprised about her price since KanColle Nendoroids are usually pricey with their large(r) boxes and quantity of accessories.

Total amount wasted spent on anime merchandise: 124750 JPY [1123 USD] [55926 PHP]

…..
…….
……….

This is literally my expression upon realizing that amount could have been spent on a cheap Japan trip.

At least I’m enlightened on what and how much I spent. Do I have regrets? No. Will I stop spending too much on such type of merchandise? No. Will I at least try to spend less on such merchandise?

The answer for that is a big NO!

Mate, don’t even bother asking such question. I do not make a fuss about you watching gay porn once a week or stroking your rod 24/7 while watching some cartoon NTR. If I do make a fuss about your hobbies then that is like me taking a piss at you and I bet no one would like that. Taking away someone’s happiness is a big NO. Disturbing their way of life is also a big NO.

Look, just try to understand eh? At least have the decency to do that. Thank you.

If you don’t have the decency to do that, then maybe I should tell you this. I have not attended the summer convention this 2017. Happy? Don’t be. I didn’t attend it because I don’t have anyone going with me. There was another group of friends that were going but I don’t feel like going with them. They’re not as attentive to the con and its elements (booths, etc.) if that ever make sense.

Oh, they DO care about one thing. Cosplayers. Basically a bunch of cheap desperate weird college virgins whom I doubt even touched a person of an opposite sex.

Definitely not a good crowd to be associated with.

At least I saved quite an amount If I were to have more pre-orders in the future. Fubuki kai-ni and Warspite would have a Nendoroid in the future so I need to save for those two.

Meanwhile, It took more than a week for me to write this post due to gathering resources while being lazy at the same time. It took so long to the point I thought making a YouTube video about this would be easier, but nope. Fuck video editors. I believe I need a time away from the WordPress editor.

Hence, I would be ending the post here. I won’t feature the “photo of the day” segment since this post is already full of useless pics. And as I mentioned, I need a break from the WordPress editor. At the moment, I can’t even look at it.

So till then, bibi and gtfo.
